The CEPU NSW Telecommunications & Services Branch is one of four branches of the CEPU operating in NSW. Two of the NSW branches are concerned with the telecommunications industry and belong to the Communications Division of the CEPU. The other two branches are the Electrical Branch (ETU) (Electrical Division) and the Plumbing Branch (Plumbing Division).
All branches operate independently but are linked through the CEPU's national structure. All told there are 18 branches in Australia with over 140,000 members covered by about 300 industrial awards and agreements. The T&S NSW Branch has about 3,500 members employed in both the private and public sectors with public sector employment accounting for about 85% of the membership. The occupations of members varies widely from technical officers to operators, tradespeople to professionals, admin officers, supervisors, white collar and blue collar. What binds these groups together is the fact they all work in the telecommunications industry providing a key service to the community. The Branch's members are employed by numerous companies, varying from small contractors up to some of Australian's major corporations. Some of the Branch membership's principal employers include -
The T&S NSW Branch has three industrial staff and three administrative staff all of whom are located at 741 George St, Haymarket. The NSW T&S Branch owns the building. |
