The CEPU industrial service:
Where service to the individual counts
Our members have many and varied needs so the industrial service we offer is broad and always changing to meet the new situations that we all face at work.

SALARIES are improved and protected in the workplace and in tribunals such as the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and the NSW Industrial Commission. Membership meetings are held throughout the negotiating process to make certain that the members get what they want. All agreements and awards are voted on by members.
WORKING CONDITIONS are negotiated with employers so that proper standards are maintained. Improvements in allowances, leave, holidays, penalty rates and overtime are regularly sought and shorter, more flexible working hours have been obtained over the years by the Union. These improvements have been won by the Union and have often been vigorously opposed by the employers. There are very few cases of employers offering improvements except where something else is lost in return.

JOB SECURITY has been made a high priority in negotiations with employers particularly in the light of the constant restructuring of the telecommunications industry. This security is achieved by way of awards, agreements and memorandums that protect employees against dismissal or downgrading. Where redundancies have been accepted the Union has been at the forefront of winning improved redundancy packages for members.

HEALTH AND SAFETY is an extremely important issue for the CEPU. Officials and delegates of the union work hard to police employer practices that jeopardise the health and welfare of members.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY is an essential union policy. The Union is a strong supporter of Equal Employment Opportunity legislation and will actively pursue legal redress for members who have suffered discrimination at work, through the courts and anti-discrimination tribunals.

A REGULAR UNION MAGAZINE is mailed to all members thereby keeping you up to date on developments in telecommunications as well as industrial relations generally. From time to time the Branch publishes member handbooks on subjects of specific interest to working groups.

EXPERIENCED UNION OFFICIALS who are trained to look after your interests. When you think that there's a problem in your work area you can rely on a CEPU industrial officer to take up your issue - we're only a phone call away.

CLASSIFICATIONS, PROMOTIONS, ATTACKS ON DISCRIMINATION AND CAREER STRUCTURES are central to the CEPU's work. Members' interests are protected through workplace representation, independent appeal mechanisms where they still exist and award clauses. Representation on individual issues is a top priority.

UNION TRAINING AND EDUCATION courses, conducted by the Union are available free of charge to members.

TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE is monitored with the CEPU heavily involved in all new proposals in the interests of members. Training and skills accreditation are key priorities.

INJUSTICE AND DISCRIMINATION are actively opposed by the Union. Whether a member is threatened with dismissal, downgrading, victimisation or being unfairly passed over, the Union is always ready to fight for the interests of its members. Where legal assistance is required it will be arranged often at no cost to the member.

SUPERANNUATION with the best possible benefits, is a key CEPU policy. The Union is actively involved in all superannuation issues, whilst our financial advisory services can advise members on the best options for investing their superannuation funds.

WORKERS' COMPENSATION claims are taken up for members by the Union's own legal service. Our solicitors and barristers are specialists in the field.
